Path to teenage rebellion

Teenage rebellions are all a part of being a teenager. Almost every teenager will go through a rebellious stage. For parents this rebellious streak can be stressful, difficult and cause problems within your marriage. Luckily, if you know how to properly handle your teenager’s rebellious streak you can avoid a number of problems.

Here’s a look at how many parents handle their teenager’s rebellious streaks.

Make Rules and Stick to Them

Your child cannot know what is expected of them if you don’t explain it to them. Make a set of rules and explain to them what you expect from them. Explain that these are the rules and you are sticking to them. Do not change the rules day to day, instead make the rules and try to change them only when needed. This will help your child know what is expected and help curb their rebellious streak. Just remember, consistency is a key element to helping you deal with your teenager’s rebellions.

Consistent Punishments

When you sit down and explain the rules to your teenager also explain to them the punishments that will happen should they violate the rules. Just remember to be consistent in your punishments and always apply them as any leniency can prompt your child to rebel against you.

Adapt an Open Door Policy

Many teenagers rebel as a way to express themselves because they feel no one is listening to them. Try to adapt an open door policy for your teenager. This policy will allow them to come to you to talk about anything without feeling as if they are judged or in trouble for what they want to talk about.

Everyday is a Good Day for Calendars

2 gregorian calendar examples

How long do most people keep marketing material? Five seconds in most cases and an hour if you’re lucky. What if there was a marketing piece that customers will keep and use for a full year? Welcome to the world of calendars.

Using a calendar as a marketing tool is as old as the printing press, probably.

Banks used to have a lock on giving calendars to customers. But with times what they are, banks aren’t giving anything away any more.

Whatever your business, a beautiful, well-designed calendar printed with your company information is an annual gesture appreciated by your customers. When it comes to calendar printing don’t cut corners. If your free calendar falls apart after a few weeks, it will leave a bad impression about the quality of your company.

Here are a few tips to turn those calendars from customer gifts into money makers.

  • Make it pretty. People may save your calendar, but if it has beautiful vistas, flowers or landscapes, they will display it proudly.
  • Do something special each month. Don’t offer the same discount deal every month. Offer different services, discounts or insider specials.
  • Make it redeemable. Have your customer tear off a piece and bring the coupon in for a discount. It will keep them coming back and let you know how effective the calendar is.
  • Free is a powerful word. It usually gets results. Offer something free only to calendar customers. Next year more people will be asking for your calendar if they think it gives them an inside deal.

Calendars can make everyday a happy day.

What to Expect at Your Child’s 12-Month Check-Up

Your child will have many doctor’s appointments in their first year. However, the most important and biggest appointment will be their 12-month check-up. This is the appointment where the doctor will check their growth and development, and immunize your child against a number of illnesses.

If you are nearing your child’s 12-month check-up, here’s a look at a number of things you can expect to happen during their appointment.

Height and Weight

Your child’s doctor will take their height and weight. This information is used to compare them to other children and past appointments, and make sure they are growing at an appropriate rate.

Head Circumference

Your child’s doctor will also measure their head circumference. This measurement is used to make sure they are growing at a rate that is normal for their age and sex. Head circumference is often taken in case the height and weight are off, it can determine if there is a developmental delay.

Immunization

The 12-month check-up is a huge appointment for immunizations and vaccinations. The vaccinations that are usually given at the 12-month check-up include measles, mumps and rubella, chicken pox, hepatitis A and B, polio and flu. Chances are your child will not receive all these shots in one appointment but will be given a number of these immunizations at the 12-month appointment.

Every doctor has a different routine for what they do at the 12-month check-up. However, these general guidelines will help you know what to expect at your child’s 12-month check-up. This information can help you prepare yourself and your child for the appointment.

Cool Android Apps for Teens

Everyone seems to want the latest and greatest phones, and teens are no exception. Once they get that cool new Android phone in their hands, what are they going to add to it?

If you just got your teen an Android phone, such as an LG Android phone, be ready for your son or daughter to ask for apps! Applications and customization is what the Android is all about! Application designers know this and market apps specifically for teens. For example, Shazam is one of the hottest music apps available for teens. Shazam not only plays music, but it also provides information, such as what artist is singing the song and where the artist is performing on tour.

What teen isn’t into social networking? One of the most popular social network sites is Facebook, and it can be downloaded to the Android phone so teens can share pictures, update their status and write on their friend’s wall. The best feature of Facebook for the Android is that it is free.

If your teen is the type to lose things, the Wave Security Mobile System app is definitely worth the investment. This handy little app can use GPS to locate a lost or stolen phone (thieves beware) and also has the capability to back up texts, contacts and call logs.

Everyone loves ring tones, but they can get expensive to purchase. The app Ringdroid allows teens to edit and create ringtones from the MP3 music on their phones.

There are many apps out there for teens, so let your kids personalize their Android phones

Designer Clothes at a Low Cost

As a parent, you probably want the best for your children, and you have a hard time of telling them “no,” even when they want something that you cannot necessarily afford. Your children may begin clamoring for designer brand clothing, and this may worry you because designer brand clothing can be expensive, especially when you are only clothing a child or a teen.

Designer Clothes at a Low Cost

One of your considerations should then be to help your children fit in by buying them designer clothing without spending a lot of money. You do not have to buy the latest and greatest, but can still help your children get the right clothing to fit in. Certain brands can be acquired easily, and a single conversation piece can go a long way in helping your child to fit in. Buy your daughter a piece or two of Apple Bottom clothes for example, and they will feel more confident and will fit in more easily at school because they are wearing a piece of clothing that they feel really good wearing.

It’s important to shop around when buying your kids designer clothing. Make sure that your child understands the value of a dollar so that he or she can appreciate the hard work that goes into clothing them. This is an excellent time for you to teach your child about the costs involved in buying clothes so that they will truly appreciate what it means to own a designer brand label piece of clothing, such as a pair of Apple Bottom Jeans.

Cell Phones and Driving

In my opinion, it is not the act of talking on...

Image via Wikipedia

Far more car crashes than we want to believe take place because someone is using a cell phone in an inappropriate manner.  These accidents can be prevented, but it may be necessary to spend a little extra money on items that will make your driving and cell phone use much safer.  More than half of traffic accidents come from the use of cell phones while driving.

Earpieces allow for a safer method of talking and driving.  It is much safer to simply leave the phone alone while you are driving, but we spend many hours in our vehicles, and some calls must be made. A blackberry smart phone is truly one of the safest phones on the market, and you can purchase items to make this smartphone even safer than it already is.

The safest and perhaps easiest cell phone ear piece is to use is a blue tooth earpiece.  It is completely wireless, which helps to eliminate some of the distractions present when you use ear pieces with dangling cords that can get in the way.  One way to minimize the chances of getting into an accident while using a phone to rely on your phone’s voice commands.  This way you can simply say, “Call John Doe”, rather than having to look down at your phone and search for that contact, which again will take more focus from your driving capabilities.

While there are many other ways in which a car crash can be averted, we can cut that original figure by more than half when we as a nation put the cell phones completely out of our heads.

Discipling Without Resorting to Spanking

Spanking is probably the most controversial issue in the parenting world. Some parents believe that it is necessary to use so their children can learn what is right and wrong, while others believe that it humiliating and degrading to the child. This large amount of controversy surrounding spanking has caused many parents to look for other ways to discipline their child.

If you are looking for alternative forms of disciplining, here’s a look at what you can do to make sure your child learns right and wrong without having to resort to spanking.

Timeouts

Timeouts are a very effective way to discipline your child. Timeouts can teach your child that what they were doing is not right and will result in a punishment. Parenting experts recommend starting timeouts when your child reaches the age of two as that is when they begin to understand the concept behind timeouts.

To use timeouts effectively remember to keep your child in timeout for a limited amount of time and make sure that you explain to them what they did wrong so they understand.

Positive Behavior Modeling

Parenting experts believe that an effective form of discipline can be to have your child learn how to model their behavior after you. If you are doing what you are supposed to and acting like you want your child to, your child will soon follow suit. This can be a great way to teach your child right and wrong without having to resort to spanking.

Timeouts and positive behavior modeling can help you discipline your child without having to resort to physical violence such as spanking or hitting.
